Track 5: Information and Knowledge Management

Information Management is the corporate function which takes care of all aspects of information logistics and IT management, respectively. As a consequence, it is also responsible for managing the enabling potential of IT innovations and the protection of the often high investments into IT/IS.

Thus, a central task is the management of all IT-related areas: alignment of business and IT strategies, development of strategies for managing innovations, such as the integration of new media, support decisions on the role of the IT department within or outside of the company, the management of the IT department with respect to competition and efficiency restrictions and finally the organization of internal and external knowledge.

Furthermore, Information Management has to devise, implement and operate inter-organizational and technical solutions for decision support. Continuous changes in the context of competition and technology confront companies with demanding challenges in this field of expertise. Information Management has to integrate so far separated systems, tap new sources of information, develop new approaches for data quality and timeliness, exploit the potential of innovative data analysis methods, and devise ways of presenting and distributing analysis results according to the requirements at hand.
